Entrepreneurs and companies increasingly operate in environments characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA), requiring them to rapidly adapt to changing market and environmental conditions. Navigating these scenarios requires new strategies, knowledge, capabilities, and technologies. New and digital technologies can support entrepreneurs in adapting to external changes, improving decision-making and communication, and responding to disruptive events. Digital transformation has encouraged companies and entrepreneurs to proactively adopt and leverage emerging technologies. At the same time, their effective exploitation requires appropriate knowledge and capabilities. Technology-related capabilities, including those associated with digital platforms, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI), can become strategically relevant for sustaining competitive advantage. Digital transformation is also reshaping entrepreneurial practices and business models by providing new tools, resources, and opportunities. Technologies such as AI, machine learning, IoT, big data, digital platforms, mobile applications, social media, cloud computing, blockchain, and FinTech are transforming entrepreneurial processes and enabling new forms of digital entrepreneurship. They can facilitate new venture creation, entrepreneurial opportunities, business model innovation, collaboration, access to knowledge and resources, and entrepreneurial decision-making. At the same time, technological failures can represent valuable learning opportunities through which entrepreneurs develop new knowledge, competencies, capabilities, and strategies. These developments establish a direct connection with the IFKAD 2027 theme, “The Ecology of Knowledge in the AI Era”. AI and other emerging technologies are transforming how entrepreneurs access, generate, combine, share, and exploit knowledge, as well as how knowledge circulates among entrepreneurs, ventures, stakeholders, and innovation ecosystems. Understanding the interplay between entrepreneurial ventures, technological advancements, knowledge, and innovation ecosystems is therefore increasingly important for explaining the evolution of entrepreneurship and the next wave of start-up growth. From a scholarly perspective, despite increasing attention to new technologies, their actual added value for entrepreneurs and their role in shaping the future of entrepreneurship remain insufficiently understood. Further research is needed to explain how technologies foster entrepreneurial opportunities, influence entrepreneurial behaviours and decision-making, support digital transformation, and contribute to building and growing enduring businesses. From a managerial perspective, understanding how entrepreneurs can effectively combine technologies, knowledge, and capabilities is essential to exploit emerging opportunities, respond to uncertainty, make better decisions, access critical resources, and develop competitive and sustainable ventures.
