Call for Special Tracks

We are pleased to announce the opening of the “Call for Special Tracks Proposals” for the 22nd International Forum on Knowledge Assets Dynamics on the theme:

tHE ECOLOGY FOR Knowledge IN THE AI ERA

This event will take place in Matera (Italy), hosted by the University of Basilicata, on 28-30 June 2027

We warmly invite you to contribute to shaping the program of IFKAD 2027 by proposing conference special tracks and panels. As in past years, the vitality of IFKAD rests in the diversity and richness of its thematic tracks, which allow us to explore frontier issues of knowledge management and organizational development in depth.

As in previous editions, the IFKAD 2027 scientific programme will combine a set of cross-cutting Key Themes with a wider portfolio of Special Tracks. Special Tracks allow the conference to reach into emerging, specialised, or interdisciplinary areas of enquiry that extend the general theme into specific managerial, sectoral, methodological, or disciplinary domains.

The Scientific and Organising Committees of IFKAD 2027 therefore invite scholars and practitioners to submit proposals for Special Tracks that engage with “The Ecology of Knowledge in the AI Era” from a specific angle. Accepted tracks will be published on the conference website ahead of the Call for Abstracts, will receive a dedicated space within the parallel-session programme, and will be showcased as a distinct entry point for prospective authors.

Proposal Submission

The IFKAD Scientific Committee will evaluate each proposal, provide comments and suggestions, and make acceptance decisions based on the proposal’s alignment with the conference theme, academic relevance, and potential to attract participation.

We encourage track and panel chairs to link their proposal to potential publication outlets (e.g., journal special issues, edited volumes, etc) in alignment with IFKAD’s publication strategy.

Key Themes

IFKAD 2027 invites contributions that examine the ecology of knowledge in the AI era from managerial, organisational, and technological perspectives, and welcomes the interdisciplinary dialogue, encompassing economics, sociology, information systems, ethics, design, and policy, that has always characterised the Forum.

We are particularly interested in research that treats knowledge management not as a static managerial discipline concerned with handling knowledge assets to drive value creation, but as the ongoing cultivation of a living ecosystem in which human and artificial intelligence jointly generate organisational wealth.

Track Proposal Requirements

Each proposal must be submitted in editable MS Word format (.doc or .docx) and should not exceed three pages.
Proposals must include the following elements:

  1. Track title — a concise, distinctive title for the track (max. 15 words).
  2. Abstract / Description — a rationale of 300–500 words explaining the track’s focus, its scholarly and managerial relevance, and its explicit link to the IFKAD 2027 theme, “The Ecology of Knowledge in the AI Era”.
  3. Keywords — 5–8 keywords identifying the track’s scope.
  4. Indicative topics — a set of indicative research questions or topics of interest that the track intends to attract (bullet list, no minimum or maximum).
  5. Track Organizers/Chairs — full names, affiliations and short biographic notes of each, for 2–4 Track Chairs; multi-institutional and international teams are encouraged.
  6. Review Committee — an indicative list of 5–10 scholars willing to act as reviewers for submissions to the track.
  7. Dissemination plan — a brief note on how the track will be promoted to attract quality submissions (e.g., targeted mailing lists, partner networks, affiliated journals).
  8. Special issue linkage (optional) — where relevant, mention of any affiliated journal special issue that will be linked to the track, consistent with the IFKAD Publication Plan.
Role and Responsibilities

Once a Track proposal is accepted, Track Chairs are expected to:

  • promote the track within their scholarly networks and encourage submissions consistent with the track’s scope;
  • arrange and coordinate the double-blind peer review of extended abstracts and full papers submitted to the track, in line with the IFKAD Submission Guidelines and Publication Ethics policy;
  • chair the parallel session(s) dedicated to the track during the conference;
  • liaise with the Scientific Committee, where applicable, the coordination of a related journal special issue.


Track Chairs are not required to be members of the IFKAD Scientific Committee, but at least one Chair per track must register and attend the conference in Matera.

Through keynotes, panels, tracks, and interactive sessions, the conference will explore how intelligent knowledge can support sustainable innovation, organizational excellence, and responsible transformation.
