Human-AI interaction for Organizational Resilience

Description

The growing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into organizational processes is transforming knowledge management practices, reshaping decision-making, organizational routines, and the way knowledge is created, shared, and used. AI is increasingly embedded in knowledge-intensive activities, supporting employees and managers in analysing information, identifying patterns, generating content, and responding to complex and rapidly changing environments. This evolution creates new opportunities for organizational learning, innovation, and sustainable value creation, while also changing the role of human knowledge, judgement, and expertise within organizations.

The widespread diffusion of AI also introduces new challenges related to security, trust, and organizational vulnerability. The integration of AI into business processes may expand the organizational cyber-attack surface and expose data, models, and knowledge assets to new forms of manipulation, misuse, information leakage, data poisoning, model attacks, and unreliable outputs. These risks do not concern technological infrastructures alone, but may also affect decision-making processes, organizational routines, and the ability of employees to recognize and respond to unexpected events. Increasing reliance on AI-supported processes may therefore create new dependencies and forms of organizational fragility.

In this context, human-AI interaction becomes a relevant factor in strengthening organizational resilience. The ability of organizations to anticipate, withstand, respond to, and recover from security-related disruptions increasingly depends on the combination of technological capabilities with human expertise, awareness, judgement, and adaptive capacity. Human oversight, AI and cybersecurity literacy, knowledge protection, secure decision-making, and appropriate governance mechanisms can contribute to reducing AI-related vulnerabilities while preserving the organization’s capacity to learn and adapt. At the same time, resilient human-AI configurations can support the continuity and sustainability of organizational knowledge by avoiding excessive technological dependence and maintaining critical human capabilities.

The increasing interdependence between human and artificial intelligence raises important questions about how organizations can develop knowledge ecosystems that remain secure, adaptive, and sustainable over time. In this perspective, organizational resilience is closely connected to the ability to protect knowledge resources, maintain trustworthy decision-making processes, and balance automation with human capabilities.

The Special Track invites researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers to explore the role of human-AI interaction in fostering organizational resilience, with particular attention to security-related challenges, knowledge protection, human capabilities, governance practices, and the development of resilient and sustainable organizational knowledge ecosystems.
